La Maison de la Crème Elle & Vire, a centre dedicated to sharing, training and innovation, for both French and International professionals, publishes original recipe collections created by and for chefs. In 2018, the “Theatrical Classic” is playing the lead role, providing inspiration for original creations. What are the rules? Take a timeless French or international gastronomy classic and give it a new style, deconstructing traditional codes and striking up a dialogue with alternative, more modern ones, (re)positioning it firmly in the spotlight.
This creative challenge plays on the analogy between the field of culinary creation and a universe strongly anchored in French culture: classic literature and theatre. La Maison de la Crème Elle & Vire invites all sweet and savoury artists to rise to this creative challenge. By taking a cuisine or pastry classic, and elevating it to a whole new level, they can present an original version of a dish or dessert … in exactly the same way in which a contemporary director breathes new life into a timeless classic. As with theatre, the art of cooking should also pose a creative challenge: create a surprise and unleash emotions!
Timeless, universally recognized and appreciated, a classic is synonymous with excellence and mastery. But safe bets can benefit immensely from being given a new lease of life, to stop them from being frozen in time and becoming increasingly outdated! How can creative vision make the codes of a dish or a pastry evolve by adding a modern touch? Theatrical inspiration provides endless opportunities … Firstly, the recipe itself can be imparted with a new style, but also its shape, presentation, or even the whole gourmet experience: why not stage the way in which the dish is served in the dining room, the tasting ritual, or even the taste sensations, stretching the horizons of the traditional way in which a classic dish is seen?
Let’s take a gamble on a distinctive “twist”, to give a recipe a whole new lease of life and, perhaps, attract an entirely new audience. Let’s dare to invent a contemporary interpretation, enabling a classic to be rediscovered. Successfully achieving the master stroke of making it appear more in tune with current times, more inspired by today’s techniques and products and even more on-trend than when it was created!
