Story

Originally a Christian feast, Mardi Gras marks a week known as "seven fat days" which are celebrated with dignity since, the next day, Ash Wednesday, begins Lent. For Christians, Lent is a time of fasting and restriction that ends on Easter Sunday. This explains that Mardi Gras is celebrated between mid-February and mid-March and corresponds to the last day when it is possible to eat without depriving oneself of where the term “fat” comes from. Mardi Gras is also a carnival holiday. This term comes from the Latin «Carne Levare» which means «to remove meat» and which also refers to the fat days preceding Lent.

France : Mardi Gras is a very festive event during which children dress up and parade through the streets throwing confetti. Many carnivals are organized on French territory, including the Nice Carnival being the largest and one of the most famous in the world. The theme of this 136th edition will be "King of Fashion" to pay tribute to Karl Lagerfeld. In France, you can enjoy many recipes of pancakes but also doughnuts.


Scandinavian countries : Fastelavn is Scandinavian Fat Tuesday. During this festival, various traditional events are organized including "Hitting the cat out of the barrel" similar to the piñata the disguised children each tap the barrel in turn with a bat until it breaks and releases the candies. In Denmark and Norway, there is a traditional pastry by the name of Fastelavnbolle, it is a small round brioche is sweet generously covered with cream.

Italy : Is one of the most important events, in fact every Italian city celebrated fat tuesdays with parades, confetti, lights and colors. The Venice Carnival is one of the most famous in the world. Every year thousands of visitors arrive in town, in a fabulous atmosphere that only the lagoon of Venice can offer. During this carnival the cookies are the «Chiacchiere». They are made of crispy dough, fried and covered with powdered sugar.

United States : On the program of this family event: festive atmosphere, jazz bands, colorful floats, pearl necklaces and toys. New Orleans is the perfect place forto have this party! It is customary to eat donuts but also the King cake. The king cake is a round or oval crown pastry made from pecans. The cake is then garnished with colored sugar (purple, green and gold).

And the last one Brazil : this is a true national holiday. It represents a major cultural element, where a better future for all citizens. The spirit of joy and celebration spreads through many fairy shows across the country. The Carnival of Rio de Janeiro will organize as usual a carnival during which samba schools compete for victory. Each of them has 60/ 70 minutes to convince the jurors. The tanks will evolve on the sambodrome.
