With vibrantly coloured ingredients, healthy fruit and veg, savoury and sweet food bowls are as pretty as they are tasty. Within just a few weeks, they have been propelled to the forefront of the food scene where they are a source of inspiration to chefs.

There is no shortage of examples.

In his restaurant, Les Bols de Jean (Paris, France), French Chef Jean Imbert serves his dishes in a bowl of sourdough bread. Canadian Chef Jordan Andino, who notably worked alongside Chef Thomas Keller before opening his New York restaurant, 2nd City, has adopted the poke bowl trend. British Chef Jamie Oliver has devised a sweet bowl containing fig, Greek yoghurt and cinnamon. However, rest assured that while the world of gastronomy has been bowled over by this new trend, not all recipes lend themselves to it. So, no need to put your plates away just yet!
